Been using Fonus for a few years now. Good service for a good price. I use it in Canada for my data, but it’s really usefull when traveling since it works in over 100 countries!! They always try to make the service better for users. The new V5 sim just came out and has been working well so far.

Great service! I have a Canadian number and work abroad. Now, I don't need local SIM cards while traveling because I can use data and stay connected anywhere. Only thing I would like is if their app worked with Android Auto for making calls, that's the only small problem I've had with FONUS.

I want to say thanks to FOX for their great service and fast replies. Their answer time is really quick — faster than anything I have seen in over 55 years. I happily give them 5 stars for their speed, friendly staff, and very good customer suport.

I had trouble gettin the SIM card to work

I had trouble gettin the SIM card to work (missed a dot in the config). The chat line was amazin. Ursula (is she real?) helped me. This is the best help chat line I have ever used. I dread goin on them but this one works!

Good price for what you get.

Good price for what you get. I’ve had Fonus as my main phone service for the past 2 years, and it’s been working fine. Using it in the USA and Europe for roaming went smooth. Had no truble at all.

The updated version is really good.

The updated version is really good. I wonder if we were meant to get a credit when the new billing came into play, or maybe I misunderstood? Keep up with the improvements. Best regards.

My third time using this service

My third time using this service. On a recent trip to Mexico, it worked fine. Connected to Telmex upon landing. No problems. I forwarded my work and home phones to the FONUS number.

I’ve been using fonus for 3 months now and I’m quite happy with the unlimited data I receive at a very low price. I definitely suggest this carrier for both esim or physical sim!

It took ages to get the sim, but once I had it, it's been flawless. The service uses Rogers and Telis for me. Really fast speads.

Great value for your money and really convenient. You get up to 20 GB of data, then it slows down, and you also get unlimited worldwide calls and roaming. That's definitely worth it. Customer service is usually good and super fast. The only real issue is that it says "unlimited data," but once you hit around 35 GB, they warn you they might shut off your service because of the "fair use" policy. So, it’s not truly unlimited data, which is a bit misleading. This has happened to me twice, and once, my service even got completely shut off. The old app was horrible and super glitchy. The new app is much better, although sometimes texts don’t show up even after a notification, and the only way to see them is to keep opening and closing the app window. The old app was awful—calls dropped, messages didn’t send or receive, and more. Luckily, the new app works pretty smoothly. Overall, good service.

Overall, Fonus has been a decent option for our Canadian phone number during global travels. It's been handy for calls, data, and SMS over the last couple of years. Recently, we've encountered an issue where some numbers don't dial or get answered properly. This mostly happens with corporate automated systems in Nova Scotia. For example, calling Canadian Tire at 902-457-1001, the system should give you department choices. But two months ago, it rang 10 times before showing a "network error." Now, it just goes to a voicemail without any identification, making it unclear if it's Canadian Tire's voicemail or a network one. Fonus support mentioned they've reported it to their tech team and will get back to us once it's fixed. You can find more details on this in our phone article on yesRetired site.

When I first started using Fonus

When I first started using Fonus, I encountered a few quirks during the setup process. However, these were quickly resolved with the help of their 24/7 online support. I found that making calls to both US and European numbers from Canada was easy and I didn't experience any dropped calls. This is a pleasant change, especially considering the high prices charged by Canadian telecom companies. I haven't had the chance to evaluate the service while traveling in Europe yet. Unfortunately, I've had trouble connecting my phone to my vehicle. While it can receive calls, it won't dial them. As for all the people complaining, I think they're just a bunch of whiners.

I've been with Fonus for nearly two years, and it's mostly been great. But there's this annoying issue since the update earlier this year—I can't access data when I'm in the USA. This is a big problem since I travel there a lot. Customer service tried their best to help, but nothing worked out. It's weird because everywhere else in the world, the data works just fine, just not in the USA. If someone at Fonus could fix this, it'd be perfect. Despite this hiccup, I still think Fonus is worth recommending. Their service is generally reliable, and for the most part, I’ve had a positive experience.

The agent from Fonus is really helpfull. She answered all my questions without confusion and fixed all problems I faced. I didn't give 5 star mostly because of 2 small issues that made the process take longer than expected. First, the system still shows 647 & 705 as area codes in Ontario even though no numbers can be given. Second, the sim card could not connect to the network for over 30 minutes, which made us worry it was broken. Still, the end result is good and I appreciate Ursula for her support.

Overall, I am happy with the service and especially the cost. There are a couple of drawbacks: numerous places (like banks) won't send verification texts to VOIP numbers, which is a major downside for me. The 'updated' App doesn't handle group messaging well. You can message several contacts, but responses are handled individually. the 'seamless' carrier transition is inconsistent when moving between Canada and the U.S.

Since switching to the new sim cards

Since switching to the new sim cards, the service has gotten much better. The connections are stable and I haven’t had any dropped calls. However, there are still some small issues with adding and removing contacts. One thing that still happens is that I have to turn off WiFi to make an outgoing call, though I’m not sure if this happens with all phones.

Messaging worked well. I had a problem with unnecessarily large photos, but the internet worked excellently with fast download speeds. However, there is a minimal delay when playing online games. Phone calls worked much better after I installed the codec that Roger's used with its VoIP service.

Fonus service is quick and efficient. I faced a few small issues trying to activate two numbers on one account (different phones). They were resolved fast. The app is somewhat awkward, missing options to block calls and set favorites. But it works fine for calls and texts.

The company offers dependable service at a fair cost. My only gripes are that their app lacks support for group texting and dark mode. Apart from these drawbacks, I'd suggest this to anyone.

Is Funktion really great!

Is Funktion really great! When I tried it, hade no mobile signal and our other device also no mobile connect! I guess it’s more a issue with the area and not with Funktion itself
